The countdown has begun: Elderflower season is soon here
Maria OlivierThere is something magical about the moment the elder trees begin to flower. After months of bare branches, the farm suddenly bursts into life — clusters of tiny white blossoms appearing almost overnight, filling the air with that unmistakable sweet, musty scent that means one thing: elderflower season has arrived.
At Bush Barn Farm, we grow our elder trees organically, certified by the Soil Association, on our farm near Robertsbridge in East Sussex. Every year we wait for that perfect window — usually late May into June — when the flowers are at their most fragrant and full of flavour. It is a short season, and timing is everything.
The flowers are harvested by hand at their peak, then steeped to make our award-winning elderflower cordials. Simple, natural ingredients — no artificial flavours, no preservatives — just the real thing.
This year we are counting down the days. Keep an eye on our Instagram (@bushbarnfarm) for updates from the farm as the season approaches — we will be sharing the first signs of blossom, harvest days, and a look behind the scenes at how our cordials are made.
If you haven't yet tried our Elderflower Cordial or our Elderflower & Rhubarb, the season ahead is the perfect excuse to discover them for the first time. And if you're a fan of our Elderberry & Lemon, the elderberry harvest follows later in the summer — so there is plenty to look forward to.
Spring is here. The elder trees are waking up. The countdown is on.
